ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said Iran had put into operation over 3,000 uranium-enriching centrifuges at a nuclear plant, reaching a key goal of its atomic drive.Talking to a group of students he said that the world powers thought that by issuing any resolution Iran would back down. After each resolution the Iranian nation took another step along the path of nuclear development, he stated.
Meanwhile, Iran has replaced the head of its revolutionary guards force, promoting an experienced war veteran to the top of the elite institution at a time of mounting tensions with the United States. According to a decree issued by supreme leader ayatollah Ali Khamenei, General Mohammad Ali Jaafari, a commander from the 1980-1988 war with Iraq and an expert in strategic warfare, is appointed head of the guards. The former chief of the guards General Yahya Rahim Safavi has been appointed a special military advisor to Khamenei.-SANA
