Pak, Jordon to enhance political, economic ties: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said Pakistan greatly values its relationship with Jordan and desires to further augment the political and economic ties between the two countries.Talking to the new Ambassador of Jordan to Pakistan Dr. Saleh Al-Jawarneh, who called on him at Prime Minister House here on Saturday, he said Jordan is our time tested friend and both countries are bound by ties of shared faith, culture and traditions, providing tremendous scope to further strengthen these relations.

Prime Minister said that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Jordan once finalized would give a further boost to the trade activities and thus benefit the people of both the countries.He said that the Islamic countries need to make collective efforts to overcome the challenges faced by them particularly in the economic field. Countries, which have huge surpluses, need to creatively use their resources to supplement growth and development in the Islamic World, he added.

Emphasizing the need to promote interfaith harmony in the world, the Prime Minister said sustained efforts are required to bridge the growing divide between the people belonging to different faiths. Interfaith, intercivilization and intercultural harmony, he said, can be the best gifts we can bequeath to our future generations.

While commenting on the situation in the Middle East, the Prime Minister called upon the need for an early resolution of the Palestine issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Palestine and said sustainable peace in Middle East will not be possible without the resolution of this long standing issue. The Prime Minister also stressed the need for an early end to the violence in Iraq. Dr. Saleh Al-Jawarneh said Jordan attaches great value to its relations with Pakistan and desires to further augment the trade and economic ties between the two countries. He conveyed the best wishes of King Abdullah and Prime Minister of Jordan which the Prime Minister warmly reciprocated.-SANA
