LB strengthens democracy at gross root: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the local bodies system has solidified democracy at the grassroots level. Talking to Minister for Industries Punjab Mhamamd Ajmal Cheema and District Nazim Sialkot Akmal Cheema who called on him at the Prime Minister House here on Saturday, prime minister said as a result of the local governments at the union, tehsil and district level, the government has created a mechanism to address people’s needs at their doorsteps and mobilise the communities to collectively resolve issues, solve problems and initiate development work in line with their needs.

He said that Sialkot is an important city of Pakistan known for its entrepreneurial skills and complimented the Nazim for the excellent work he has done to improve the overall administration and development of the district. He said that Sialkot is also a major industrial centre whose products are known all over the world for their excellent quality and reliability.

Government also appreciated the efforts of the citizens of Sialkot on a self-help basis in improving the infrastructure including roads, airports and other such projects which is a model for other cities and districts to follow, he added. Talking about the political situation, the Prime Minister said that PML and coalition partners are committed to hold the next general elections in a transparent manner so that the will of the people determines the course of the country’s future.

The Prime Minister said that the PML and its allied parties will contest the elections based on their performance in the last eight years which has transformed the country, improved its image and improved the standard of living of the people. In order to continue this journey, consistency and continuity of policies is of critical importance and this is the reason that the people of Pakistan, who want a better future for themselves, will support the ruling coalition in the upcoming elections, he added.

He said that the re-election of the President is imperative for the continued progress and prosperity of Pakistan. He said that all those who want to promote national interest will rally together to support the President’s re-election. Certainly the ruling coalition supports the President’s candidature and his re-election will augur well for the future of Pakistan, he added.-SANA
