6006 IED Explosions in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: At least 6006 Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosions have taken place in the violence hit Kashmir during the past 18 years of violence. Thousands of people including Indian security personnel were killed in these IED blasts. According to official statistics available to NewsBlaze, at least 6006 IED explosions rocked the restive Kashmir from 1990 to June 30, 2007.

The statistics reveal that militants carried out the highest number of 366 IED explosions in 1995 while the lowest number of IED blasts have taken place this year. The break-up the official statistics reveals that 128 IED blasts took place in 1990, 275 in 1991, 248 in 1992, 327 in 1993, 347 in 1994, 366 in 1995, 358 in 1996, 255 in 1997, 264 in 1998, 293 in 1999, 294 in 2000, 402 in 2001, 254 in 2002, 229 in 2003, 157 in 2004, 136 in 2005, 80 in 2006 and 31 in 2007. The main target of the IED blasts carried by militants have been Indian security personnel and their vehicles. However, in hundreds of cases, civilians have borne the brunt of the IED explosions.-SANA
