ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Muhammad Ali Durrani has said that the process of political reconciliation will provide a road to fair elections. Talking to a private television channel, he said the deal would not harm Muslim League (Q) in any way. Earlier, some politicians and political analysts had said that Pakistan Muslim League (Q) would receive a big dent if an agreement is signed between the government and Pakistan Peoples Party. Already some leaders of the ruling party have criticized their government while Minister of State for Information Technology, Ishaque Khakwai has tendered his resignation.
Durrani said that President Gen. Pervez Musharraf after taking the government into confidence has started a process of broader national reconciliation, which is in the best interest of the people and the country. The information minister said that no deal being cut with a single political party but efforts are underway to improve political environment in the country by dialogue. He said all political groups are being contacted for the sole aim of ensuring continuation of democratic process and free and fair elections in the country. Durrani said the government doesn’t want any curbs over the freedom of media.-SANA
