KARACHI: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz says Pakistan is committed to promotion of peace and stability in the region and the world. Addressing the concluding session of the Naval Exercise Shamsheer-e-Behar-III in Karachi , he said our defence policy is based on minimum credible deterrence. The Prime Minister said we favour a regional strategic restraint regime in strategic and conventional weapons. He said that peace in the region is necessary for progress and development of the people.
The Prime Minister assured that the government will continue to strengthen the defence forces along modern lines. He said that Pakistan Navy is playing an important role in strengthening the defence of the country. Our Navy will have to shoulder greater responsibility to ensure protection of maritime trade and secured environment of the coast. Mr. Shaukat Aziz said the government will make all out efforts to strengthen the Navy enabling it to safeguard the maritime interests of the country.
Later, while addressing a representative gathering of businessmen, industrialists and bankers in Karachi he said that economy, defence, security, foreign policy and social sectors are moving in the right direction. The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that people would support us in the coming general elections on the basis of our policies.Mr. Shaukat Aziz said that the government is making sincere efforts to develop national political reconciliation in the country for which dialogue is going on with the parties in and out of the Parliament. -SANA
