ISLAMABAD:Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has said that Lal Masjid will be reopen for prayers in the next week, sources said. He was talking to a 15-member Lal Masjid Committee comprising the residence of G-6 at his office. During the talks, Interior Minister assured the Committee for reopening of Lal Masjid next week. The committee, led by Younas Qureshi presented four demands related to Lal Masjid.
They demanded immediate reopening of the Mosque, its colour should be red and the Committee should be allowed to meet Maulana Abdul Aziz to appoint new Khateeb with his consent. Interior Minister Sherpao assured the Committee that their demands would be fulfilled. The Minister said that the government respects dignity of the Mosques and Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been directed to construct new mosques in new sectors. The residence of G-6 assured the Interior Minister that there would be no law order situation if the mosque reopened. Secretary Interior Syed Kamal Shah, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Hamid Ali Khan and Inspector General Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch were also present in the meeting.-SANA
