ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Nauraiz Shakoor Khan said the government is pursuing a comprehensive policy to provide safe drinking water to people on priority basis across the country. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a three-day training workshop on Capacity Building in Water Quality Monitoring in AJK and NWFP in Islamabad. The workshop is jointly organized by UNICEF and WHO.
He said a large number of patients are suffering from water borne diseases, so there is a dire need to provide clean drinking water in every nook and corner of the country.The minister said on the directives of President Pervez Musharraf water filtration plants would be set up in every union council by the end of this year. UNICEF Representative for Pakistan Martin Mogwanja said over three thousand teachers were imparted training in dealing with health issues at the level of primary and higher secondary schools in AJK.-SANA
