Dialogues with govt for democracy: PPP

LAHORE: Secretary Information Pakistan Peoples Party Punjab, Farzana Raja has said that PPP’s dialogues with the government were aimed at the restoration of democracy and rule of law in the country, as any confrontation with army at this juncture will bring civil war in Pakistan. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, she said that PPP has always stood in the frontline of every struggle for democracy in the country. She said that PPP leadership and party workers had full confidence in Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s leadership as she never compromised on principal and her efforts would bring democracy in the country.

While criticizing All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), she said there was no need to form such a movement in presence of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD). She expressed her surprise on MMA’s existence in APDM and blamed MMA for betraying the democratic forces by negotiating with General Musharraf and helped in legitimizing the uniformed president through a constitutional amendment. “Those who are opposing any dialogue with the government today have voted and supported the uniformed president in the past,” she said. This is only PPP’s distinction that it has never work together with any of the military rulers, she added. She said that PPP wanted a peaceful transition to democracy through fair and free election and under a caretaker government of national consensus.-SANA
