PST announces Rs. 1m for volleyball promotion

ISLAMABAD: President Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and Chairman Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Arif Hassan on Monday announced rupees one million for the promotion of volleyball in the country by saying that all out resources will be provided to the federations. Addressing a ceremony hosted by PVF in the honour of national volleyball team who won the bronze medal in the second commonwealth volleyball championship at Indian city Kolkata.

He said Sports Trust will provide all assistance to the federations which perform better at international levels, he said this while Chairman Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Col Sallah-ul-Din, director operations Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) Lt. Col. Yahya, Secretary PVF Major (R ) Muhammad Afzal along other Prominent personalities participated in the ceremony. Arif said that the PST is trying its best to make better the level of volleyball game in the country. Luding the performance of national players in common wealth volleyball championship, he said that the standard of volleyball is being improved. He hoped that Pakistan spikers will Perform best in the upcoming south Asian games adding that PST will provide all out assistance to those federations who shows best performance in the international competitions.

The Chairman PST also announced grant amounting to rupees one 1 million for the promotion of volleyball in the country. Out of one million, Rs. 25000 will be granted to each player who contested in the recently held volleyball championship in India city of Kolkata, he stated. Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob Chairman PVF said that the performance of player is improving day by day due to efforts of Bulgarian Coach. The team level will enhance with the introduction of new players in the team, he said adding that Pakistan will participate in the two international events including Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship at Indonesia and Al-Rashid International Volleyball Tournament at Dubai. Talking about the talent hunt program, Chaudhry Yaqoob further stated that, PVF is training players on modern lines and providing all the crunch facilities to the players. Also, this year, six training camps will be held at various parts of the country to promote the game and groom youngsters, he said.-SANA
