Strike cripples life in Balochistan as Bugti’s first death anniversary marked

QUETTA: Life in several districts of Balochistan remained paralyzed on Sunday due to wheel jam and shutter down strike observed here on the occasion of the first death anniversary of the Baloch nationalist leader, Nawab Akbar Bugti. Over 50 persons were arrested in different areas including this provincial city on the charges of violence and blocking of roads.

Jamhoori Watan Party, Balochistan National Party and Baloch Students Organization had given a call for the observance of strike marking the first death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Bugti, while the nationalist parties and BSO organized public meetings, protest rallies and seminars in the different districts of the province. Quetta, Chaghi, Naushki, Mastung, Qalat, gawadar, Punjgor, Awaran, Turbat and Khuzdar districts observed shutter down and wheel jam strike, while traffics on Quetta-Karachi and Quetta-Pasni national highways remained standstill. Security arrangements through out Balochistan remained tight on this occasion
