PESHAWAR: Director General NAB (F) Colonel (R) Khurshid Alam has that NAB has succeeded in substantially bringing down the level of corruption in the country. The country’s apex-anti corruption organization has recovered Rs.207.368 billion from the elements involved in corrupt practices till December 31, 2007, he said while addressing a seminar `commitment to uproot corruption is the omen of development for Pakistan,’ held here at NAB-F headquarters on Wednesday.
The seminar was organized in connection with World Anti-Corruption Day scheduled being held on December 9, next. He said that corruption hampers economic development and take a heavy toll on the financial resources that are meant for development and prosperity of people.
The lust for money, mutilation of justice, out-dated laws and weak internal control was one of the few reasons, which leads to corruption. He said that corruption was a global issue and fighting it is very difficult task. He stressed the need for collective efforts among all stakeholders to make sustainable efforts for elimination of the scourge, which is weakening the very social fabric of the society.
The DG NAB said that a well-coordinated mechanism was in placed for verification and analysis of complaints. The NAB takes action only on those complaints, which were thoroughly verified and falls within the ambit of NAB laws. He said that NAB was striving hard to eliminate corruption through a comprehensive awareness, prevention and enforcement campaign.
To control and eliminate the scourge of corruption, he said that a National Anti Corruption Strategy (NACS) has been developed to bring attitudinal and behavioral changes through awareness, prevention and deterrence.
Dr Najma Sultan, the Director A&P NAB-F, Lt Col (rtd) Alam Zeb, Vice Chairman SRSP, Ms Meraj Humayun Khan, CEO DLG Welefare Programme and Prof Dr Saleemure Rehman, the Vice Chancellor Sarhad University also addressed on different aspects of the topic.-SANA
