ISLAMABAD: Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Moharram will be observed with religious reverence and solemnity throughout the country Sunday. The day is observed to commemorate the supreme sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain Raziallah-o-Tallah Anho and his companions at Karbala to uphold the truth. Tazia, Alam and Zuljinah processions will be taken out in all cities and towns across the country.

On this occasion, special security arrangements have been made for the maintenance of peace and sectarian harmony. Police, Rangers and troops have been deployed outside Imambargahs. In Rawalpindi, the main procession of Alam, Zuljinnah and Tazia will be taken out from Imambargah Colonel Maqbool Hussain. After passing through its traditional route, it will terminate at Imambargah Qadeemi in the afternoon.

In Lahore, the main Zuljinnah procession will be taken out from Nisar Haveli, inside Mochi Gate. It will terminate at Karbarla Gamey Shah Sunday evening after passing through its traditional routes in the city. In Karachi the Markazi procession of Alam and Zuljinnah would be brought out from Nishtar Park. After passing out its tradition routs it would terminate at Imambargah Hussainian Iranian Kharadar.

In Peshawar over one dozen Alam and Zuljinnah processions will be taken out from various Imam Bargahs. The main procession will be taken out from Imam Bargah Alamdar Karbala near Qisa Khwani bazaar in the evening. The procession after passing through its traditional route will terminate at its starting point.

In Quetta, the main mourning procession of Alam, Taazia and Zuljinnah will be taken out from Alamdar road. It will be joined by other small processions to be taken out from different parts of the city. The Ashora processions will terminate at their respective Imambargahs in the evening after passing through traditional routes.

In Muzaffarabad, a big procession will be taken out from Markazi Imam Bargah Pir Ilam Shah. After passing through its traditional routes it will terminate at the Imam Bargah in the evening. The other processions taken out from outskirts of Muzaffarabad will also join the main procession.

Meanwhile, a number of Alam, Zuljinnah and tazia processions were being taken out on the occasion of 9th Muharram on Saturday. Majalis-e-Aza and religious gatherings are also being held at imambargahs in which ulema and zakireen paid glowing tributes to great sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions who sacrificed their lives for upholding the truth and righteousness and glory of Islam.-SANA

On 1st Muharram the Islamic New Year Al-Hijra commences. It is a lunar calendar having 12 lunar months in a year of about 354 days. Because this lunar year is about 11 days shorter than the solar year, Islamic holy days, although celebrated on fixed dates in their own calendar, usually shift 11 days earlier each successive solar year. Islamic year is called as Hijra because this was the time when the emigration of Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) occurred from Mecca to Medina. In Arabic Migration is called as the Hijra.
