Food, potable water still off-hands in rain-hit Sindh
BADIN: Recent floods and rain in district Badin and Mirpurkhas have led to acute shortage of safe drinking water and food. Prices of edible food items in the local markets have also gone up due to low supplies caused by inundation of roads.
Badin is one of the calamity-hit areas, where the relief camps are unable to provide the basic items to the affected people including safe potable water, food and safe sanitation.
The displaced Ali Ahmed Samo, a father of five children, in Golarchi tehsil has complained of shortage of water and food.
“Non-availability of safe sanitation, drinking water and lack of food availability have multiplied their miseries, with government officials yet to react to their problems,” he said.
But, Badin DCO claims that relief camps have been set up in all five tehsils of
the district where affectees are being supplied with food and drinking water.
On the other hand, the prices of the food items have been raised following a sharp increase in the demand. Flour has reached to Rs1,250 per 40 kg from Rs1,150 while sugar is being sold at Rs80 instead of Rs68 and milk Rs60.
Prices of other necessary food items such as vegetables, fruits and meat have also been increased up to20 per cent.
Also, the breaches in drains and canals have not been filled yet.
