Rising of polio cases as ‘tragic’, says Sindh acting governor
KARACHI: Acting Sindh Governor, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, has termed the emergence of new cases of polio in the province as tragic. He was chairing a high level meeting at the Governor House here on Friday. The meeting reviewed the measures for anti-polio drive in the province.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Secretary, Raja Muhammad Abbas, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mumtaz- ur- Rehman, Provincial Health Secretary and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Karachi besides other officials.
Nisar Khuhro said that disability of a person because of polio is painful for the entire society. This is especially so because prevention is available. He was of the view that the anti-polio campaign should be owned at the higher level so as to help achieve the desired results. The Acting Governor said that if 100 percent results are not attained in the respective areas during the anti-polio campaign then the concerned DCOs, THOs and the DHOs would be held responsible.
He directed the Provincial Secretary Health for constant and strict monitoring and that action be initiated against the officers not showing the desired results. Nisar Khuhro also asked the Chief Secretary to keep a vigilant eye.
