Turkish firm liscenced to generate 600 MW power from Thar coal
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the provincial government is fully committed to fight peer crisis by utilizing the coal of Thar and other parts of province. He expressed these views at the MoU signing ceremony between the Government of Sindh and Turkish company M/s Colakoglu Investment A.S held at C.M House.
?He said that the provincial government has already allotted 8 Blocks in Thar Coal field while two more blocks are being allotted to other firms for exploration, study and submission of feasibility reports. Chief Minister Sindh said, “Today a step ahead has been taken, which is a better effort, as a Turkish company has signed MoU.”
He said that there is sufficient area remaining out of which one block is being allotted to Turkish company which will explore and after detailed study, will submit its feasibly reports, with details of coal deposits and proposed installation of power plants, etc.
?Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Advisor to Sindh C.M. for Investment Mr. Zubair Motiwala said that M/s Colakoglu will produce 600 MW Power from Coal in the first phase through the investment upto US$ 1.00 billion, on fast track basis to be suitability scaled up in future.
?He said that Turkish investors of M/s Colakoglu Investments as had expressed their interest in development Thar Coal and informed that they possess mining business of producing five million tons per amum of steel, being exported from Turkey to Italy. ?Besides, the Turkish company have LNG terminals, 200 MW of Coal fired Power Plant in operation since 1998, 400- gas fired power plant, and Gold, Copper, Chromate mines with banking business.
