5-member commission constituted to probe into Abbottabad operation
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has constituted a 5-member commission under senior judge of Supreme Court Justice Javed Iqbal to probe into Abbottabad operation. As per spokesman of Prime Minister House, a 5-member commission will include Justice (Retd) Fakhar ud Din Ibrahim Jee, Lt Gen (Retd) Nadeem Ahmad, Ashraf Jahangir Qazi and Abbas Khan. Prime Minister has set up this commission after consultation with political parties.
Sources told the commission would soon hold its meeting to approve its rules and regulations. Sources told Pakistan Times the commission would collect all evidences and information and will be powerful and fully neutral. In the light of commission’s report government will fix responsibility.
Prime Minister had met with President Asif Ali Zardari besides other political parties and taken them into confidence prior to issuance of notification on formation of commission. Pakistan’s parliament earlier this month asked the government to appoint an independent group to probe the raid that killed bin Laden, aimed at ensuring that such an incident is not repeated.
Parliaments also threatened to withdraw logistical support for U.S. troops based in Afghanistan and condemned CIA-operated drone strikes in the wake of the helicopter-borne assault by US Navy SEALs that led to bin Laden’s death.
