PM issues orders for removal of re-employed retired officers

ISLAMABAD: In pursuance of Supreme Court directives Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had issued orders for removal from service several officers who were re-employed on contract basis after their retirement in different departments including Police, Railways, IB and others.

PM Secretariat sources told media Friday PM has removed from service the officers including IG Sindh Salah ud Din Babar Khattak, DG FIA, Nasir Hussain Khosa, DIG Maj (Retd) Khurram Gulzar, Deputy Director IB Asghar Mehmood, Director IB Tariq Jamil, Member Customs, Wadood Khan DG E-government Khurram Shahzad and others. These all officers were re-employed on contract basis after their retirement.

It may be recalled SC had ordered federal and provincial governments that re-employing the retired employees on contract basis was illegal, therefore, they be removed from service forthwith. Establishment Division would issue notification about the officers who had been removed from service on this count.

However Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani could not remove from their posts retired government officers including Malik Asif Hayat and Suleman Farooqui who are re-employed on contract basis in Aiwan-e-Sadr due to pressure of presidency. Well placed sources told media that PM had issued orders Friday for removal of retired officers from their posts who were re-employed on contract basis . They include DG FIA, IG Sindh and others.

PM has however not removed Malik Asif Hayat who is secretary to president Asif Ali Zardari and is retired officer of grade-22. Suleman Farooqui, secretary general of Aiwan-e-Sadar is also a retired officer and he is enjoying the status of federal minister. He has also not been removed from his post due to pressure of presidency.

Contract officers whose contracts have been removed from their offices due to implementation of Supreme Court orders have demanded PM should have a look upon the contract officers appointed in Aiwan-e-Sadr.

They were of the view that Suleman Farooqui who was secretary general in Aiwan-e-Sadr was NAB tainted and as per SC verdict in NRO case, all the officers who were beneficiaries of NRO were not eligible to hold public offices for 10 years. Despite this verdict, Suleman Farooqui was not only holding the office of secretary general in Aiwan-e-Sadr but was also enjoying the status of federal minister.

Sources said Nargis Sethi, former principal secretary of PM has got her transferred to the post of secretary cabinet division in order to avoid confrontation with Suleman Farooqui, secretary general, Aiwan-e-Sadr.-ONLINE
