OGRA decides to retain petroleum prices
ISLAMABAD: Owing to a strong opposition from almost all political parties, the government on Monday decided not to increase petroleum prices due on February 1. A notification to this effect was issued by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) after a parliamentary committee meeting led by Petroleum Minister Syed Naveed Qamar.
An increase of 8-9/- Rs was anticipated. However due to pressure of political parties government had bow and decided not to increase petroleum prices. Several TV channels have reported that keeping in view; an anticipated raise in prices petrol pumps owners had stopped selling petrol. The people of Pakistan have welcomed the step, however government now will have to offer certain subsidy to petroleum sector for next two weeks.
