Now Offsprings rob Pakistan blind: Moonis Elahi should not slip

National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam is one of the largest corruption cases registered up-till now, because few of the highest ranks in the country’s political and financial institutions have been involved and misused. Supreme Court (SC) is leaving no stone unturned to unearth the truth behind the National Insurance Company Limited scam as it involves huge amounts of money. Moonis Elahi; the son of Punjab’s previous Chief Minister has come in limelight in the latest development of this ongoing case. The son of the former Chief Minister, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi; he took full advantage of his father’s position to destroy the sanctity of the national exchequer.

Former Chairman of the NICL, Ayaz Khan Niazi, arrested for big corruptions. Furthermore FIA Director General Waseem Ahmed who has also been implicated in failing to arrest influential culprits in this scam — has now been directed to summon Moonis. However accused Moonis Elahi apparently has fled to Dubai and has now, reportedly, run off to London, despite his name being put on the Exit Control List by the SC. He is accused of taking Rs 220 million in property deals in which the NICL was involved.

Big names involve in the embezzlement has made their crimes even bigger. Corruption is now running into bloods and public office apparently use for private gain. The Supreme Court must not let these men get away with this huge fraud. Pakistan does not want one more case of this type going to dogs and just a blimp on the country’s conscience. Thus the importance to peruse this case has increased manifold not only to rehabilitate the people’s confidence on fairness of institutions back but also for those who use public office for personal gains. Many powerful politicians have stolen the country’s money and stashed it in foreign accounts. Too many people are being ever burdened by an economy in severe morass because our leaders, and now it seems their offspring, are too busy robbing us blind.

This has become obligatory for Supreme Court to bring all the culprits regardless of stature on record, it is important for setting an example so that others should not follow in Moonis Elahi’s footsteps and think twice about using political influence protecting them from the long arm of the law. The country needs justice at a time when it is slipping into the abyss. And Politicians should lend their ears that it is ripe time to stop defiling Pakistan’s high ranked institutions to fill their pockets.
