MQM revisiting policy of coalition support
Karachi: After continuous target-killing incidents and violence, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has decided to revisit its policy of coalition support as well as resignation of its provincial governor. Whereas the president has immediately summoned the Governor Sindh to Islamabad.
According to the sources a meeting of the MQM coordination committee is being held simultaneously in London and Karachi in which deep concern and grief was expressed on the recent incidents of target-killing and violence that have claimed at least 26 lives.
According to the sources governor Sindh Dr.Ishrat ul Ibad Khan telephoned the Prime Minister and expressed his party concerns over target-killing. Sources also revealed that MQM has decided to take stern measures if the government ignores their concerns and reservations.
Haider Abbas Rizvi, a senior MQM leader and member of Parliament, accused the ANP of being behind the shootings, saying ”19 of our workers and supporters have been killed so far.”The MQM’s leadership was weighing all options in response to the violence, including withdrawing from the provincial coalition government, said a party source. The MQM has made similar threats in the past.
Senior ANP member Amin Khattak denied the accusation, saying, ”we are not involved in killings, and I think that this blame game should be stopped.”
