ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has directed that withdrawal of the executive order regarding restoration of judges of the superior courts will be tantamount to the breach of constitution and it should be ensured that no such action will be undertaken.

In a short order of after hearing of a suo-motu notice in this regard on Friday, the 17-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary declared that the withdrawal of the executive order will be treated as violation of Article 6 of the constitution.

The Chief Justice while announcing the verdict of the court said that the statement of the Attorney General regarding seeking more time for a clear stance from the chief executive is unsatisfactory.

The larger bench directed the government to investigate the source and the authenticity of the media reports telecast last night regarding government consideration for withdrawal of judges’ restoration notification. Later, the court adjourned hearing of the case till 18th of this month.-SANA
