KP Minister for donors share for flood-hit areas rehabilitation
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Agriculture, Arbab Muhammad Ayub Jan has asked the donor countries and multinational NGOs to contribute their share in the rehabilitation process of the flood affected areas of the province. He said this appeal while distributing non-food items donated by the Salvation Army among the flood affectees of Tarnab Farm, Peshawar on Thursday. The Salvation Army Major Raehton Gibbs, Emergency Program Officer and Major Dannis Gensler, Secretary for Business and Captain Asif Extension Officer along with other representatives were also present on the occasion.
Arbab Ayub Jan said that the recent past flood caused to the standing crops and people of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that the government had already fulfilled the basic requirements by providing them food, healthcare and shelter in the shape of tents.
He said, now in the third phase, the government was providing Rs. 20 thousand to each affectee for the construction of their houses. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was already left undeveloped due to militancy and flood further compounded the situation by damaging the property and standing crops of the province. Arbab announced that the boundary of Bara Canal would be raised upto 10 feet to protect the property in future and free seed would also be provided to them.
While highlighting the role of Salvation Army, the Minister said that the Salvation Army played a positive role by providing goods to the affectees and expressed the hope that they would also extend their help in the rehabilitation and reconstruction process in the settlement of affected people.
Speaking on the occasion, the Salvation Army Major Raehton Gibbs and Major Dennis Gensler said that their organization was busy from the last one hundred and fifty years for the eradication of poverty from the world and was still working in 120 countries by providing the basic amenities to the needy people. They said that they would discuss the rehabilitation process with their high ups and hoped that they would definitely contribute their share in the rehabilitation process in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Later on, the Salvation Army representatives distributed the non-food items which included mattresses, pillow, quilt and kitchen sets among the flood affectees.-SANA
