Govt to resolve problems of traders on preferential basis
Dated: Islamabad: Leader of House in the Senate Nayyar Bokhari on Sunday said keeping country stabilized is not only the duty of the government but all the segments of society and a great responsibility lie on the shoulders of trading community. He said
“We will never lay down arms in front of terrorists; we are destined to win a future for our next generations,”
He said government is well aware of the problems of small traders which will be resolved on preference.
This he said while speaking after taking oath from recently elected office bearers of the Traders Action Committee (TAC). He said that demands of traders regarding a just tenancy act will be resolved soon and a dispute resolution mechanism will be developed in a bid to provide them peace of mind.
“I will bring all departments close to traders and outstanding issues would be resolved through consultation,” he said. Earlier, Chaudhry Kashif, Central Organising Secretary TAC said that government should amend repressive tenancy act which has created unrest in the trading community and resulted in many summary evictions.
He demanded 20 per cent quota for tax-paying traders and asked government to establish residential complexes for traders near all major markets.
The TAC leader also demanded of the government to forge coordination committees comprising officials of police, administration and TAC. A similar committee comprising chairman CDA and traders will greatly improve performance of the department which is not coming up to the expectations of masses.
“Traders are in favour of broadening tax base but holy cows should be targeted,” Kashif said adding that pushing existing taxpayers is injustice. He asked the Advisor to direct gas, power, utility social security, EOBI, CDA, FBR and other department to avoid threatening and imposing fines and adopt a decent way of consultation.
Salahuddin Khan, Chairman TAC said that the sales and income tax survey and monitoring teams are fanning agitation which is a conspiracy against the government.
