Pakistan, China agree for frequent exchange of parliamentarian delegations
ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza underlined the need for frequent exchange of Parliamentary delegations between Pakistan and China to strengthen our relations and to help better understand each other’s system of governance. Dr. Fehmida Mirza who was leading a delegation of National Assembly members from both opposition and ruling parties expressed these views while talking to Chairman of National People’s Congress of China, H.E. Wu bangguo at the Peoples Great Hall in Beijing, says a press release received here Wednesday from National Assembly Secretariat.
I was extremely delighted over the warm welcome on my first visit as Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan to China”, said Dr. Fahmida. She also expressed her thanks over the reception and hospitality accorded to her and members the delegation.
The present government she pointed out is determined to further strengthen Sino-Pak relations. Talking on economic cooperation, the Speaker National Assembly said that there was a need to expand Trans-Border Economic Zones. The Karakuram Highway and the Gwadar Port which Pakistan has constructed with the help of China were of great help to boost economic development of her country.
Dr. Fahmida said that she was very impressed with the economic progress and development China has achieved in a short span of time. The speaker NA said that the people and the present democratically elected government keep Sino-Pak relations in high steam as China is our most trusted friend. Quoting the founding Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party and former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto she said that Pakistan, China friendship is higher than the mountains and deeper than the oceans.
The Speaker NA pointed out that there are women and Friend of China caucus in our parliament and she wants to pursue through these platforms further cooperation with regard to exchange of parliamentarian delegation with China.
Earlier, Mr. Wu Bangguo said that he was very delighted to welcome the first lady speaker of the National Assembly from Pakistan. He said that she is not only the first lady Speaker of Pakistan, but of whole Muslim world, Despite all these development, Wu Bangguo said that people to people contacts help enhance understanding.
Expressing thanks to Pakistan for supporting China on all issues, Wu Bangguo said that China also wants to see Pakistan a strong and stable H.E. Wu Bangguo said that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had played a great role in promotion of relations between the two countries.
Later, the Chairman NPC hosted a banquet for the distinguished guest at the Great Hall of the people which was also attended by Ambassador Masood Khan and senior officials from Pakistan Embassy.-APP
