How to improve the status of Sexual Reproductive Health?
The issue of reproductive health yet remains issueless in Pakistan. It is like that of a vicious circle which needs to be interrupted at various angles. Education, health education, statistics, economy, political and social setups, culture and customs, taboos, poverty, awareness, poor budgeting, lake of skilled and trained personnel, lake of planning, poor service delivery system, lake of stakeholders’ interest in effective managerial efforts, lake of transport and health facilities in far flung areas are most important obstacles which need to be removed for uplifting status of reproductive health at district Lodhran and everywhere in Pakistan. It’s matter of mass humiliation when we compare it with the international standards. Heart sinks and stops beating when a mother along with her new born baby dies due to the reasons above and we are left with rubbing hands. It is time to catch heads to think over the matter and to break the cycle. There are billions of mothers and forthcoming newborns who are awaiting someone to come forward for their extending health to take the issue on top priority. So, it is need of the day that not only government sector but also private-public & NGO sectors should shake hands together to discuss the issue on top priority. Many soft hearted, visionary scholars, planners, managers, officers and volunteers with good leading abilities from all sectors are required to create a think tank for the utmost betterment of reproductive health in all districts of Pakistan.
Quackery cannot be stopped but can be made beneficial by including them in the team work after proper training and understanding in the context of reproductive health status in the respective districts.
Government administered health facilities like BHUs, dispensaries, health houses, MCH centers, FWC etc. and other semi-government and non-government based service delivery units should be opened in far flung areas. The provision of transport vehicles (ambulances or public transport) should be made compulsory and feasible at each facility. More and more skilled and trained personnel should be produced at union council level among the community of that union council and their presence should be made 100% sure at the established facilities, points and every counter.
Campaign on awareness of each aspects of sexual & reproductive health status should be started at union council level. Service delivery system should be made approachable and easier everywhere. Stakeholders’ training sessions to develop their keen interest into the matter should be held regularly. Separate staff on sexual and reproductive health be appointed so that the sole issue can be approached separately and effectively. Intersectional efforts could play key role in resolving the issue of reproductive health. Influential and effective leadership efforts on enhancing the budget for sexual and reproductive health in the district budgeting would definitely bring MDGs down and would save millions of millions lives in future.
