A dog’s Chance

Finally Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilanhi has decided not to wash his hands of the matter. The oil has been poured to the troubled water from the castles of government a ray of hope arises. He has expressed his determination to follow the wave of public desires. His resilience to work for masses has raised his grades among the people though indicating a void between president and prime minister. Addressing to a dinner hosted by him in honor of Senators on Wednesday; he said in defining tone that he wants lifting of the Governor’s rule in Punjab at the earliest and would request the President to let the provincial assembly ascertain who commands the majority. His was an impassioned appeal to the political leadership to exhibit maturity for the sake of economically and politically stable Pakistan. He deserves a round of applause for at least becoming conscious of his role when whole Pakistan is under the rule of turn coats. If he unties his hands and able to turn new leaf; political situation will move towards better future for PPP government.

Soon after the death of Benazir Bhutto; Pakistan People’s Party won the popular vote in wake of sympathy of salinity of chairperson of PPP resulting in formulation of government. But poignant sounds were heard repeatedly “This was not BB’s team”. Even after one year of PPP government; PPP’s own workers are deemed it wise to agree that Had Benazir Bhutto alive she would never have opted for such abysmal team of politicians including President Asif Ali Zaradari. On political showground words like “civil disobedience” and “civil war” are reverberating so often that intensity of tensions can be weighed. People who have witnessed these “isms” in real can be better commentator than me what repercussions “Civil War” and Civil Disobedience” bear.

Every other moment brings mind boggling news regarding President Asif Ali Zardari; recently he reached a full and all out deal where PML-Q has been offered Chief Ministry of the biggest and troubled province of Pakistan ;Punjab. In return PML-Q will vote in favour of Farooq H. Naek-PPP nominee for Senate Chairmanship. Later Maunas Elahi will be Chief Minister for three months and later Ch. Pervaiz Elahi will be made Chief Minister. This arrangement is seconded by the PML-Q‘s withdrawal of its nominee for Chairman Senate i.e. Ch. Shujaat Hussain. That certainly proves that throne in flesh is President Asif Ali Zardari who either doing personalized politics or become civilian dictator. He has attempted to edge Shraif Brothers along with blocking Lawyers Movement in pursuit of imposition of Governor Rule putting on wrong scent. Thus he has no string lefts in his bow after Chaudry brothers.

Asif Ali Zardari’s all tooth and nails are thrown over boarded. His own party whom he thinks; he turns them round on his fingers has expressed grief over the disqualification of Sharif brothers; then on imposition of Governor Rule. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has articulated that if masses are not being delivered; sticking to power will leave us empty handed. President Asif Ali Zardari is between two fires now and conflict seems to be shifted from Presidency-Opposition (Zardari-Sharif, Lawyers) to Presidency-Premier (Zardari-Gillani). Any sensible head of state would not want smooth functioning of governance to be disrupted by only one man- PM would never want to come under clouds just by standing with Zardari and against the will of masses. Who are politically more charged after the imposition of section 144 in Punjab to curtail the efforts for Long March.

Today’s two processions one held in Gujranwala and other in Abbotabad revealed that section 144 didn’t work. Sharif Brothers addressed to people and their speeches appeared more charismatic and change oriented thus they gained more substance around them. They have attracted more attention in masses for being pillars of the politics of principals. If Asif Ali Zardari cannot envision forthcoming picture of future- masses will take time by the forelock in finding a bee in his bonnet. Sharifs have won the mighty and strong support in streets as per fresh and dependable Gallop survey against Zaradri who has lost the popularity which he gained after the ruthless murder of his wife and Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Ms. Benazir Bhutto.

Stumbling upon such situations; it is difficult for Pakistan to manage more of instability. Economy is crumbling; Pakistan is badly notorious for providing safe heavens to militants; in tribal areas insurgency has gathered momentum; separatist’s movements in Baluchistan are undermining the unity of Federation; Drone attacks are flagging Pakistan’s sovereignty; at Eastern and Western borders two neighbors are throwing stones on Pakistan. Last but not the least masses-essence of democracy; have become bread crumbs and politicians are wrapping their vested interests in bread crumbs and fry them in oil of power lust. It is suggested that President Asif Ali Zardari should set a square deal by throwing himself on the right scent and pay heed to Premier’s requests of reverting Governor Rule and let the majority party form government in Punjab. This is the only way he can avoid his decay otherwise he knows his is “A Dog’s Chance”.
