ISLAMABAD: The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Chihiro Atsumi assured Japan’s continued support for the economic stabilization and development programs in Pakistan.

Talking to Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Makhdoom Shahbuddin on Tuesday here on Tuesday, the ambassador said that Japanese government had doubled economic assistance to Pakistan just last year and closely watched progress on program implementations important for all donors.

Discussing the regional situation, Chihiro Atsumi expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s positive role in curbing the menace of terrorism. Makhdoom Shahbuddin said that terrorism being a wide-ranging phenomenon called for a comprehensive approach.

On the occasion, the Federal Minister Makhdoom Shahbuddin apprised the Japanese Ambassador that despite economic challenges, Pakistan’s economy had started to move in the right direction.

He pointed out that a number of opportunities existed for Japanese investment in Pakistan especially for public-private partnerships and Direct Foreign Investments.

He said that a number of projects were being carried out with Japanese assistance in the country, adding that Pakistan shared long-standing ties and common values with Japan, known for its rich traditions and heritage and the people of Pakistan had always held the people of Japan in high esteem.
