Senate body for ban on Indian channels
ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting on Monday asked the government to immediately ban Indian channels being telecast by the cable operators across the country. The committee, which met here with Senator Liaquat Ali Bangulzai in the chair, was of the view that the cable operators were freely screening Indian films and dramas and it again recommends ban on the Indian channels unless easing of ban on Pakistani channels by the other side.
The meeting, held here to discuss the issues of Press Information Department (PID), Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and Pakistan Television (PTV) was attended by Senators Tariq Azim Khan, Muhammad Ali Durrani and senior officers of Ministry.
Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani was of the view that besides Indian entertainment channels, cable operators were also screening Indian movies, which should be stopped immediately. Haji Adeel, however, slightly differed with the other members, saying in the modern age free flow of information is necessary as the ban on Indian news channels could deprive us knowing what actually they were propagating against Pakistan.
Chairman PEMRA informed the meeting that PEMRA believes in complete freedom of expression; therefore, prefers the self regulation and monitoring of the code of programmes and advertisements by its broadcast/distribution licensees.
He said PEMRA established a comprehensive Monitoring Cell at Islamabad with the main objective to monitor the content of broadcast media and satellite TV channels round the clock. Daily monitoring report is being generated to ensure the compliance of the code of conduct by the Satellite TV Licence holders.
He said PEMRA has arranged mobile jammer equipment to stop unauthorized broadcast of FM radio in Swat. These equipment, he said would be handed over to security agencies soon. Secretary Information, Ashfaq Gondal informed the meeting that PTV Board regularized services of 723 contract employees of the channel.
He said in order to synergizing the resources of News and Current Affairs as well as better coordination between the two divisions, a senior professional having diversified experience of both the divisions has been posted and no additional position was created.-SANA

paki movies and dramas suck big time. pakis dont have any self-respect. they keep watching indian movies and serials even though indians hate them. lol inferiority complex =))

Well, I agree we should ban Indian News Channels, and somehow also Indian Entertainment channels too bcoz i didn’t find any any ending of these serials or so-called soaps. Mr. Indian can you please explain me when your param in Kis Desh Mei on STAR PLUS will dead, because it often get death and after sometime, it again comes in new role in same serial. WHY ? Minority of Pakistani people watch it for killing the time instead of getting such get good Infotainment. I recommend Indains to ask your officals to air Pakistani Channels; GEO, ARY and DAWN. You will how Pakistani are … bcoz in our serials there is moral lesson and have ending of drama. Our drama actually educating the mass instead of just focusing on MONEY as your STAR PLUS do.
As you said that Lollywood is low class, for your kind information sir, our Javed Sheikh is continiously coming in your Bollywood movies, and this high class actor and many other singers Atif Aslam, Roxen, Rahat Fateh, CALL and many others have identity of PAKISTAN. Look at Khuda Kay Liya and Ram Chand Pakistani which were block busters in every sense. You people should have neutral approach, instead of blaming on Pakistan’s Identity and its institutions. You people should come out from this cave, and focus on poverty line in India. As i watched your few political campaigns in India on BBC not our Pakistani Channels :d. You should avoid personal attacks. I am not saying bollywood is crap, it is good no doubt about it. As i am agree wid you ppl. so should be instead of passimistic thinking.
Honestly speaking, i regard for Indian people but with positive approach and respect towards Pakistan and its institutions.

salman, i dont watch star plus lol. in fact i’m not interested in ekta kapoor serials. these soaps are only for people who have plenty of time in their hands. the only serial that i really loved and still cant stop watching is kahin to hoga- which ended in 2007 (i think).

lol, you are wrong. rajeev khandelwal (ala sujal garewal from kahin to hoga) was so popular in pakistan. he used to get shervanis as gifts from paki fans. are you telling me that was for killing time?lol

you can count the number of lollywood blockbusters on your hand lol. by the way i never liked any of paki singers. that atif aslam is such a turn off. i’m not saying that b/c he’s paki, i just dont like his voice. sonu nigam, udit narayan, and kk are way better.

Yes ….Indian Serial are some what irritating..(Baa ki maaut kaab hogi…aur unki umar kinti hai…yeah sawaal mere dimaag main humesha ghoomti hai..:P)…but i would also like to say…..our BOLLYWOOD has no comparison to any other!….people tale three names….HOLLYWOOD….BOLLYWOOD and TOLLYWOOD(Bengali)…Lollywood also have produced some great actors like…Madam Noor Jahan or Jahangir or Santosh Kumar…but comparing one with other makes no sense!…so people enjoy Indian Channels by your heart…there are lots of educational or moral full stories available…watch them..and it wil be great if we can also see pakistani channels…i used to see ‘MAA’ hosted by Sania Saeed…in PTV…unfortunately it was banned in India!
Yeah but secret motives to influence mind sof women is an art that lies with Indian TV Industry. Pakistani Channels are showing still some extra ordinary dramas based on Classic Urdu literature..

Well, I am not here to change a single Indian. If you don’t like Atif Aslam or its voice than you can’t say that All Indians have same mentality like you. I don’t like to remain in long cold war through this media because you are saying that Pakitani have no self respect. Listen sir ! We have long history together for centuries. So our eastern culture have alot of similarities, and can understand your language. But you people can’t say that Paki have no self respect. I will no comment any more on this issue because i oberved that there is certain class in India who hate Pakistan by their heart. I can’t change themselves, bcoz it lies in their gross route level. But i appreciate the Indians who are awared in all ways… want peace and progress in the Indian Subcontinent.

salman, trust me, most indians, if not all, have something against pakistan. especially after november attacks in mumbai.
me personally, i have got some good paki friends, but most of them are just plain arrogant. at least the ones i have met.
and by the way, pakistani entertainment is now banned in mumbai, i’m not sure abt the rest of India. besides, pakis watching Indian movies shows lack of self respect, b/c Indian media hates you guys. they are trying to impose their culture on you pakistanis.thye dont even allow paki entertainment in india, but yet you guys watch our stuff.
let’s admit it, we dont have the same culture. it’s similar, but a LOT different. I know, i’ve paki friends.
