March next 50 percent Senators of Pakistan including Chairman Senate Muhammadmian Soomro from Pakistan Muslim League (Q)will stand retired. Biggest sufferer of the completion of 6 years’ period of the Senate will be Pakistan Muslim League (Q) which ruled Pakistan from 2002 to 2007.

Main senators from PML (Q) from Sindh province who will leave seats of the upper house of the Parliament include Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro, Allama Mohammad Abbas Komaili (MMA), Asif Jator, National People’s Party, Babar Ghauri from MQM, Bibi Yasmin Shah from PML (Q), Muhammad Ali Brohi from PML (Q), Rukhsana Zuberi from PPP,Federal Law Minister Farooq Naek from PPP, Muhammad Amin Dadabhoy, Envger Baig from PPP, and Nisar Memon from PML (Q).

From Punjab eminent jurist Anwar Bhinder from PML (Q), former law minister Khalid Ranjha from PML(Q), Kamil Ali Agha from PML(Q), Muhammad Amjad Abbas Qureshi from PML(Q), Razina Alam Khan from PML (Q), Saadia Abbasi from PML (N), Prof. Sajid Mir from MMA, Sardar Mahmud Khan from PML (Q), Present Attorney General of Pakistan Latif Khosa from PPP, Dilawar Abbas from PML (Q) and Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry PML (Q).

From Frontier Province Anisa Tahirkhaili from PPP(Sherpao Group), Kausar Firdaus from MMA, Dr. Muhammad Saeed, Gulzar Khan Independent, Haji Muhammad Adeel Khan from ANP, Zafar Iqbal Jhagra from PML (N), Maulana Rahat Hussain from MMA, Maulana Samiul Haq from MMA, Sahibzada Khalid Jan from MMA, Shujaul Mulk from PML(Q) and Federal Investment Minister Waqar Ahmad Khan.

From Baluchistan Pari Gull Agha from PML(Q), Begum Kalsoom Perveen from PML (Q), Kamran Murtaza from MMA, Malik Mumtaz Hussain Mehfooz from PML (Q), Naseer Mengal from PML (Q), Wali Jan Badini from PML (Q), Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri from MMA, Ayaz Jogezai from PKMAP, Raza Muhammad Raza and Sayed Akhtar Akbar Shah Independent.

Those Senators who will stand retired from Federally Administered Tribal Areas include, Rashid Ahmad Khan, Hafiz Abdul Malik Qadiri, Nasir Khan and Syed Muhammd Hussain.

Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and its Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed who could return from Federal Area will also vacate his seat with other part senator and Tahira Latif.

Senators for the upper house are indirectly elected. From provinces their election is done by provincial deputies, from Federal Assembly and FATA the National Assembly elects 11 senators. Women and technocrats are elected on second and third priority basis.

Pakistan’s current politics is focused on next Senate’ 50 percent seats.The PPP, PML (N), ANP and MQM are the major parties who will fill vacant seats. Its expected that the ruling PPP will clinch majority seats.

The Senate provides equal representation to four federating units of Pakistan to create a balance. In this ratio 22 senators are elected by provinces each and remaining senators are from FATA, Federal Areas and special seats for women and technocrats.Total strength of Senate is 110.
