Terrorism not specific to any country: Zardari
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari that he has held very productive talks on regional and bilateral relations with UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Addressing a join press conference here on Sunday with PM Brown, he said that Pakistan and UK have been good friends and partners. “Our friendship is deep rooted and founded on shared values. It has been cemented by a large Pakistani expatriate community in the United Kingdom” he added.
“We welcome UK’s contribution to promoting democracy and the rule of law. We also value our close association with the Commonwealth” the President said. He said that he appraised the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s desire to build durable peace in South Asia to have the best of relations with India.
“Terrorism and extremism are a common problem, which require cooperative efforts. These problems are not specific to a country but are global in the wake of the Mumbai attacks, we have signaled cooperation to India” Zardari stated.
“We have started investigation on our own and offered joint investigations Pakistan is also engaging closely with Afghanistan on issues of security and stability as well as to build a partnership for development” he said.
he said that he also conveyed to the British Prime Minister the importance that Pakistan attach to its relations with the European Union and the need for greater market access for Pakistani goods into the EU market. “Our bilateral relations have progressed well.UK is an important development partner of Pakistan. We are grateful for the support extended to us” Zardari said. “I wish to thank the Prime Minister for his important contribution to the strengthening of Pakistan-UK relations” he said.-SANA
