99 Indian fishermen released from Malir Jail
KARACHI: Ninety nine Indian fishermen were released from Malir jail on Tuesday. The decision to release the Indian prisoners, detained during October to December 2006 from its territorial water, was taken at the federal level. The jail administration received a notification in this regard from the Home Ministry.
According to jail officials, they were released on Tuesday. A local non-government organization (NGO) received them after being released. A 22-year-old Mahboob was also among the fishermen released. The group detained at Malir Jail of Karachi would be sent to Lahore by bus from where they would be repatriated to their country via Wagah border crossing.
Maritime agencies of the South Asian neighbors regularly arrested fishermen who either stray into or frequently enter rival’s territory for a bigger catch.-SANA
