Raja Ashraf bans transfers/ postings in PEPCO/DISCOS
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf has directed all Power Distribution Companies (DISCOs) to reduce losses and speed up their recovery campaign with rigorous efforts on war footing basis. He asked them that they should pull all their available resources to make 100 % recovery of current billing and maximum recovery of outstanding dues by end of December 2008. Discos have been given a target of Rs 40 to 50 billion to be recovered by June 30, 2009.
He expressed great concern over poor performance of the DISCOs in launching maximum receivable recovery from private consumers. He made these instructions while chairing a high level meeting of PEPCO and DISCOs to review the performance of the Power Companies here today. Secretary and Advisor, Ministry of Water and Power, Additional Secretary, M/O Water and Power, Managing Director PEPCO, Chief Executive Officers of all DISCOs and senior officers of Ministry and PEPCO were present on this occasion.
The meeting was convened to discuss the prevailing critical power situation in the country. The Minister imposed ban on transfers/postings of any kind in PEPCO/DISCOs with immediate effect till further order. He also directed all CEOs of DISCOs to put their systems in order and improve performance, so that the existing state of affairs could be arrested prudently. He said that there would be no compromise on efficiency and poor performers would be taken to task.
He said that all CEOs would be responsible for their recovery and added that strict disciplinary action would be taken on account of non-performers and efficient performers would be rewarded properly.
Detailed briefing by each DISCOs was given to the Minister on their performance, line losses and recovery position. The Minister asked PEPCO and DISCOs to confront the situation with rationale mechanism to recover the old electricity bills outstanding from private consumers and improve their performance by reducing line losses and non-development expenditures by adopting austerity measures.
He asked them to take all the necessary measures to improve and enhance the efficiencies in order to put the DISCOs in a sound financial position. December plan of action to reduce load shedding to have minimum in coming days was also come under discussion. The Minister directed PEPCO to build up their oil stock for December as hydel generation will significantly decline due to Canal closures.-SANA
