Pakistan to be purged of militancy, terrorism: Zardari

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari reiterating that no foreign intervention would be tolerated in dealing with militants in Pakistan has said that our forces are able and well equipped to deal with terrorism in all its forms and manifestation and our goal is complete peace in the country. He expressed these views while talking to Chief of Army Staff Gen Pervez Ashfaq Kayani who called on the President at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Saturday morning.

Matters related to overall situation in the country with special emphasis on the tribal areas, war against terrorism, latest missile attack by US drone in North Waziristan and professional capabilities of the Pakistani Army were discussed in detail.

Sources told that President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the need of dealing with terrorists and militants who are not only killing innocent people but are maligning Islam and their own country. Vowing to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations he said that his own family has been a victim of terrorism and he can relate to the people who are victims of this menace.

President emphasized that no negotiations and talks would be held with terrorist and the government would continue to fight terrorism until our country is purged of militancy and terrorism, sources told.

Lauding the professional capabilities of the Pakistan army he said that we would under no circumstance allow any foreign forces to intrude into our country and challenge our sovereignty. He said that Pakistan army is well equipped and a professional force that is able to combat terrorism in their own country and deal with militants and would defend the borders of their homeland. He said that Army is a national asset and all its requirements would be met. Sources told that the President also appreciated the support of tribals in combating foreign militants and Taliban and said that this proves that people of the tribal belt are also peace-loving countrymen and are willing to fight for the sovereignty of their country.

Sources told COAS Gen Pervez Ashfaq Kayani speaking on the occasion said that Pakistan army is capable and ready to meet any challenge and no aggression by external forces would be tolerated and we would protect our borders. According to sources the latest missile attack by a US drone in North Waziristan on Friday night in which 20 people were killed also came under extensive discussion.-ONLINE
