ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan’s economy offers best opportunity for the telecom sector as the government is committed to provide level playing field for their operations. The Prime Minster said this in a meeting with Ms. Chua Sock Koong, President Group CEO SingTel, Singapore and Mr. Bashir A Tahir, CEO Abu Dhabi Group at the PM’s House.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan with population of 160 million has potential with growth rate of 2% per annum having high young/medium segment. Hence, Pakistan telecom market provides enough opportunities of investment in the sector, he added. The Prime Minister appreciated the confidence of the group by investing in the Banking and Telecom sectors in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister also told the delegation that Pakistan also offers best investment opportunities in the agriculture and energy sectors. He ensured the delegation of his government’s full support in this regard. The Prime Minister encouraged the Abu Dhabi and SingTel Group to establish software centers and also business process outsourcing in Pakistan. The Abu Dhabi Group is one of the largest business groups of UAE and the largest foreign investor in Pakistan. Mr. Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira, Federal Minister for Information Technology was also present in the meeting.-SANA
