Committee to scrap biased laws against minorities

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday issued directives to form a committee after demands were made to scrap discriminatory laws against minorities. A delegation of minorities of the National Assembly met with the Prime Minister. They demanded allocation of five per cent quota in government jobs, housing schemes and education institutions for non -Muslims.

In the wake of the demands, Gilani directed his Special Assistant Shehnaz Wazir Ali to prepare recommendations in this regard. Besides doubling the minority’s development fund to Rs150 million, the Prime Minister announced a grant of Rs10 million for each minority lawmakers in National Assembly. The lawmakers also demanded that minorities’ religious festivals be celebrated at national level and all discriminatory laws be done away with.-SANA
