Senate passes unanimous resolution to disband NAB

Submitted by Rubab Saleem on August 8, 2008 – 5:05 pmNo Comment

ISLAMABAD: The Upper House of the Parliament Friday unanimously passed a resolution to disband the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The resolution was moved by Senator Latif Khosa after Senator Safdar Abbasi moved a privilege motion in the House maintaining that some officials of NAB had manhandled him when he was coming out of the Court along with his cousin Sikandar Abbasi who was acquitted by the Court in a case and was granted bail in another.

He said the NAB officials including a Deputy Director, an Inspector and some other officials, despite the fact that the bail had been granted by the Court, arrested his cousin and when he (Safdar Abbasi) intervened, the NAB officials pushed him back and arrested Sikandar Abbasi.

Safdar Abbasi said he introduced himself to the officials but they instead of rendering cooperation, insulted him and breached his privilege as well as of the august House. He demanded that NAB officials should be summoned in the House, and the matter should also be sent to Privilege Committee of the House. Meanwhile, the members from both sides of the House strongly condemned the incident and demanded that House should pass a resolution to disband NAB-SANA
