PML-N reiterate its stand on judiciary

Submitted by Omer Azam on July 20, 2008 – 11:55 pmOne Comment

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has demanded resignation of the PCO judges for taking the country out of the judicial crisis. In an exclusive interview with SANA the PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday said it would be a good omen for the country if the PCO judges resigned as the nation will never accept them. Welcoming the Prime Minister’s statement that the nation would soon hear a good news regarding restoration of the judges, Ahsan Iqbal said that time is short and delay in the restoration of the judiciary will harmful as then starting of street agitation cannot be ruled out. He said, “Further delay in restoration of the judges cannot be tolerated.”

The PML-N Information Secretary said that the lawyers’ fraternity announced their framework if the restoration is delayed and his party would soon decide as what to be done. “PML-N would soon announce its strategy in this connection,” he said. The PML-N leader said implementation of Murree declaration in its letter and spirit can make the coalition government effective adding otherwise the coalition will remain divided on ideological basis. The political uncertainty in the country is stemming from not resolving the issue of independence of the judiciary, Ahsan said.

The Information Secretary said that the economy could also be not restored due the unsettled issue of the judiciary. “The public’s demand must be met that is essential for political as well as economic stability and the people have reiterated their demands in the recent IRI survey,” Ahsan Iqbal said. He elaborated that removal of Musharraf and restoration of the judges are two dominant demands of the people and it would be against the interest of the ruling alliance if the public’s demands are ignored or implemented after some delay. Ahsan hoped for early implementation of the Murree declaration.

While Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi says his Party is firm on its principled stand on the issue of restoration of deposed judges. Addressing a ceremony of High Court Bar in Multan, he said independence of judiciary will raise the image of the country in the community of the Nation. He urged the political parties to make full efforts for reinstatement of judges and independence of judiciary because an independent judiciary is a gaurantee of development in the country. He paid tributes to the movement of lawyers and expressed the confidence that it will succeed.

While Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Senior leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif has welcomed Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani address to the nation and his remarks with regard to reinstatement of the deposed judges. Talking to a private TV on Sunday, he expressed the hope that now the issue of judges would soon be resolved. He said with amicable solution of the issue, the coalition government would be in a better position to give due attention to address economic hardship being faced by the country. Asif said he had full faith in the leadership of Yousuf Raza Gilani and PML-N was confident that “solution to the issue will come soon.” -SANA
