RAWALAKOT: Indian forces Thursday fired on Pakistani troops deployed at a forward post along the de-facto border dividing Kashmir between the two countries. According to Director General ISPR, Pakistani troops fired back in retaliation but there was no immediate report of casualties in the exchange of fire. Director General ISPR, Major-General Athar Abbas said that at 2pm, the Indian troops fired two mortars and small arms on a Pakistani check post at Battal in Rawalakot.

He said that the Pakistani soldiers retaliated with mortars and small arms, adding that a protest was communicated through a hot line across the border. “Pakistan is demanding an immediate meeting at the level of Directors General Military Operations,” he said. The incident was a rare violation of a ceasefire which Pakistan and India agreed to hold in November 2003 along the Line of Control before they launched peace talks in January 2004.

While The Indian army resorted to unprovoked firing on a Pakistani checkpoint in Battal sector of Rawalakot. Military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas told Geo News that at 2pm; the Indians fired two mortars and used small arms on a Pakistani check-post at Battal in Rawalakot sector. He said the Pakistani soldiers retaliated with mortars and small arms. Major-General Abbas said a protest had been communicated through hot line across the border and an immediate meeting of the DGMOs is demanded.-SANA
