Children’s Mountain Forum
ISLAMABAD: Children’s Mountain Forum” will be held at Islamabad on the 10th of July 2008. Federal Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi will be the Chief Guest on this occasion. On the last day of National Children’s Mountain Conservation Meet “Children’s Mountain Forum” will be held at Islamabad on the 10th July. In the forum, selected children on behalf of all 120 children will present papers based on their study and research during the Meet. They will also submit their recommendations to the government regarding improvement of environment in the mountain areas.
The 7th National Children’s Mountain Conservation Meet organized by Adventure Foundation Pakistan (AFP) held from 1st July to 10th July. 120 children and 50 staff members came from all over Pakistan to join this unique project launched by the AFP in preservation of ecosystem and natural resources in the mountain areas of Pakistan. Thirty expert resource persons and field scientist accompanied them for their guidance and training of children so that they could play their role effectively during the programme.
On 1st July children from all parts of the country started to arrive at Islamabad and Abbottabad and on 2nd July opening ceremony was held in Army Survey Camp Abbottabad. Provincial Minister for Environment Javid Ali Khan was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
On 3rd July they moved to Kaghan Valley where two base camps were established for them at Naran and Shogran. While staying at these camps, children undertook different environmental activities in the area e.g., study of flora and fauna of the area, tree plantation, cleanup of waste from Lake Sauiful Muluk and recycling and waste management. Children also participated in mountain environment awareness walk held in Naran on 6th of July.
Local community and people from Wildlife Department and Forest department participated in awareness walk. In the evening of 6th July children participated in cultural night in which they wear traditional dresses and presented their local songs and dances.-SANA
