SRINAGAR: The ambiance around Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) here reverberated with the slogans ‘Umar-Geelani Zindabad’ as the public rally organized by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat marched towards Dal gate Chowk after Friday prayers from TRC Masjid. It was a unique demonstration of unity by the activists and leaders of Hurriyat Conference factions who participated in the rally led by Syed Ali Geelani. The people were raising pro-freedom, pro-Geelani, election-boycott slogans, demanding closure of all wine shops and gambling centres in the Valley. Hurriyat Conference (M) senior leaders- Shabir Ahmad Shah, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Javid Ahmad Mir and Zaffar Akbar Bhat- were among the prominent persons participating in the rally which culminated at Dalgate Chowk where Geelani addressed the people.
Reiterating his appeal for complete boycott of coming assembly polls, Geelani termed it the poll boycott as worship. He said, “It is a worship, like recitation of Kalima, offering of prayer, paying Zakat, performing of Hajj, because polls only throw up people like MLAs and ministers who promote obscenity, sexploitation, corruption, sale of liquor and other vices and evils. They also work to weaken the ongoing freedom movement to perpetuate Indian military occupation in the state.”
Expressing serious concern over the disappearance of children, Geelani blamed the outsiders working as labourers, masons, carpenters, painters, etc. here. “Such crimes were unheard of in Valley but the day since the number of these outsiders increased, the crime rate here went up. We appeal to them to leave Kashmir peacefully.”
Geelani urged Kashmiris not to bank on outsiders and prefer to do all works themselves to earn livelihood. He also appealed to the people not to provide accommodation to these outsiders on rentals. He also warned people that these outsiders were promoting their own cultural here. Geelani demanded that all wine shops in the Valley should be closed without any delay. He accused the government of India of promoting polytheistic culture in Valley through different media.
Regarding Amarnath Yatra, Geelani said it used to go on for 15 days only. “Even as per Hindu religion, there is no justification to extend it beyond 15 days. Its extension beyond 15 days serves no purpose other than creating environmental pollution and launching cultural aggression.” Geelani thanked the Hurriyat (M) leaders and activists who participated in the rally. He stressed greater unity among Muslims. Earlier, Geelani addressed the Friday prayer meeting at TRC Masjid. He spoke at length on the evils of wine, gambling and polytheistic cultural.-SANA
