Govt decides to regularize contract employees from Grade 1to15
ISLAMABAD:The Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad has decided in principle to regularize the services of contract employees from Grade 1 to 15 who have rendered more than two years of service. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday. Briefing newsmen after the meeting Information Minister Sherry Rehman said that in this connection the Federal Minister will bring suggestions and its financial implications at the next meeting of the cabinet for its final approval.
She said that cabinet has also decided that the contractual employee in PIA with more than nine months of service will be regularized. She said these steps were taken in line with the manifesto of the PPP and to mitigate the sufferings of the low paid employees. She said a committee will be constituted to consider cases of some employees of the government who have been appointed on higher salary packages during the last seven years.
About the forthcoming budget she said the emphasis will be on how to mitigate the impact of high international oil prices and inflation. She said the budget will also encourage investment and lay emphasis on social programmes. The Information Minister said that the Cabinet also gave approval of the bill to amend the Representation Peoples Act 1976. It would amend the tribunal hearing the Election Petitions. Now when the petition goes for review to the tribunal it has to decide it within the four months or otherwise it would arrange payment of special cost of ten thousand rupees.
She said the Company’s Bill has also been approved which empowers the companies having two million rupees capital to enroll legal advisors on payment to them five thousand or ten thousand rupees. She said that the Gwadar Port Authority Bill was sent back for the re-examination and review to the Port and Shipping Authority. The Port and Shipping Authority will review it and Balochistan Government will be given representation in the committee to address their reservations about the land dispute there.
She said the cabinet has directed that the ten thousand rupees currency note will not be issued. It decided that the five and fifty rupees with new designs will be issued. She said that Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani announced one lakh rupees each for the heirs of those who were martyred in the bomb blast near Danish Embassy in Islamabad on Monday. The Information Minister Sherry Rehman said that a meeting of the PPP parliamentary committee will be held in Islamabad tomorrow to review the constitutional package. She said thought this package is not final and in put receive through coalition parties will be included in it.-SANA
