BRUSSELS: European Union foreign and defense ministers agreed here to double the scale of its police mission in Afghanistan to around 400 personnel. The ministers meeting in Brussels “decided the EU should double the number of participants in the EUPOL mission in Afghanistan,” a statement from the EU’s Slovenia presidency said. “The consolidation of the rule of law, which is particularly weak in the areas where safety is not guaranteed, is of crucial importance for consolidating the democratic process in Afghanistan,” the E.U. presidency said. The current EU police mission, formed by 200 police, law enforcement and justice experts is to help train Afghan police force.-SANA
