Avalanche floods area, blocks KKH

SWAT: Avalanche at Hasni valley of upper Hunza broke out twice in four days that flooded nearby areas causing all traffic between Gilgit and China on Karakoram Highway (KKH). Hasni glacier is located between Galmat and Phisu areas of upper Hunza, which burst out for the second time in four days severing communication of upper Hunza including Sost with other areas besides traffic between China and Gilgit has stopped. Flash floods caused by the avalanches have submerged the nearby farms and orchards including Karakoram Highway besides swept away several poles of electricity and telephone. Frontier Works Organization, local volunteers, relief teams from Gilgit and Hunza reaching the affected places have started relief works and trying to divert the direction of the floods emanating from the bursting glacier.-SANA
