ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman Friday said that Pakistan Peoples Party government was adhered to the principle of free media as it was the cornerstone of democracy. She was addressing the concluding session of a round table conference organized by the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) on “Media Freedom, Laws and Security” here. The Minister said media criticism is a blessing and every democratic government fully takes advantage of the criticism for improving its performance.

She said after the new government came to power, the first step it took was to do away with black PEMRA laws hindering the freedom of media in the country. “We would also bring more legislation with the sole aim to facilitate media and provide them an environment where media could flourish. We need to decolonize information and what we need from my friends is collaboration and cooperation as the government is really going to launch a new agenda that has never been done in the past,” she added.-SANA
