FAIZABAD: The number of people infected with measles reached over 90, while over 1000 people were infected with lieshmania. Dr. Abdul Momin Jalali, public health department head of Badakshan told Pajhwok Afghan News the public health ministry in Kabul examined the sample and concluded that the disease was measles. He said 94 people mostly students have been infected with measles. Signs and symptoms of measles are red spot on the skin, severe fever which threatens the life of children.
He said measles could be prevented though vaccines, and have quarantined the infected patients at the hospital. He added in meeting with WHO and UNICEF they agreed to launch a vaccination campaign in near future. Dr. Jalali said WHO has provided 1500 dose of vaccine and has pledged to provide more. Meanwhile the number of infected with lieshmania has reached over 1000 people in the province. Jalali said 650 people have been infected in Faizabad and over 400 in Baharak district.
Lieshmania which is transferred by mosquito is a painless sore which leave scar after it heals. Dr. Wakil, head of infectious disease in Badakhshan province said each injection for Lieshmania treatment cost 200 afghanis, however the health center provides the treatment without any charges.-SANA
