Pak Army is unaware of Govt-Taliban truce agreement: Maj. Gen. Tariq

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Major General Tariq Khan has said that Pak Army does not know about government and Taliban peace agreement. He stated this while briefing foreign and local journalists about Talibanization and law and order situation in South Waziristan in DI Kan on Sunday. Maj. Gen. Tariq Khan pointed out that Pak Army was deployed in Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera and Bannu to restore the government writ and now the situation under the control of police and civil administration so the army was being reduced there.

He made it clear that Pakistani Army did not evacuate Waziristan rather they changed their positions and there was army readjustment in mountainous areas, adding that some areas of South Waziristan were handed over to Frontier Corps. Maj. Gen. said that Mehsud areas were purged from militants where training of suicide attacks was being imparted. “Talibanization process was halted after the deployment of the army in the area” he added.

He announced that road between Srarogha and Janddola would be reopened soon, adding that the government would give relief to the victims of the operation and they could return to their homes. On this occasion, real causes and interviews of the children would be used in suicide attacks were displayed to the journalists; these children were arrested by police with army support. The copies of FCR were distributed among journalists.

While The NWFP Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti has said peace agreement with the local Taliban would be inked strictly within the ambit of the law and no extra ordinary concession would be granted to them. In an interview, he said talks with local Taliban are moving in the right direction, but no compromise would be made on writ of the government. He said before finalizing any deal, militants would have to give assurance that they will not indulge in negative activities and not involve themselves in damaging public property, or promoting or supporting violence. To a question, he said no decision has yet been taken to release the Taliban prisoners, if need arises decision would be taken on case to case basis.
