Mumbai: India has said that it is investing 7 billion rupees in uranium exploration to secure self sufficiency in nuclear fuel. Media reports from Mumbai suggest on Monday that the Chairman of the Indian Atomic Energy Commission, Anil Kakodkar speaking in the city, admitted that nuclear power plants in the country have been functioning at half the capacity due to lack of uranium, a radioactive metallic chemical element used as a fuel in nuclear reactors. The official said that therefore the government decided to invest billions of rupees in uranium exploration so that shortage of uranium could be covered.-SANA
