SRINAGAR: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Mohammad Umar Farooq said that media is the fourth pillar of democracy. He appreciated the role of journalists in covering news and providing analysis and interpretations of events etc. He said that in spite of relentless untoward circumstances, the journalists of both electronic and print media have performed a great deal of professional duties in valley by displaying highest standards of ethics of journalism.
Mirwaiz Umar said that it was unfortunate that even today few countries were trying to curb the freedom of press, which is highly condemnable. He said the people of Kashmir have not given unprecedented sacrifices of life and property for economic packages and cash compensation but to achieve the right of self determination, which is birth right of Kashmiris.
The APHC said that the process of unabated sacrifices was still continuing so that a viable and lasting solution to vexed Kashmir issue according to the aspirations of people of valley is reached at. He reiterated that the ongoing movement was going through a critical stage and every step was to be taken with utmost care to foil the conspiracies of active anti movement elements.
Mirwaiz Umar said that the party was always ready to welcome any party or an individual who wants to join the ongoing movement provided he works with honesty and uprightness and in accordance with the party principles.-SANA
