BEIJING: China has raised the death toll in a pre-dawn train collision to 66, with 247 people injured. The official Xinhua news agency says the two passenger trains collided early Monday near the city of Zibo, in Shandong province in eastern China. The agency said 51 of the 247 injured were listed in serious condition.

Xinhua says one of the trains was an express from Beijing to the eastern city of Qingdao. The other was traveling from the city of Yantai in Shandong to Xuzhou in Jiangsu province. The express from Beijing reportedly derailed and hit the other train, causing it also to leave the tracks.-SANA
